Introducing yourself - and your (Mastodon) community to others - is a part of expanding your social network and discovering folks with whom you want to engage.  Due to the decentralized nature of this platform, you’ll need to copy paste the link from any new, not yet connected community into your “Home” instance.

Follow me here for educational community focused suggestions, or DM me here for personal help or technology topics.

Note: to Follow someone, the process is the same and they get added to the voices on your timeline.  Often, this is beneficial and desirable. Screenshot is included further down this page.

How to engage with a new Mastodon instance:

  1. Visit a new instance online.  I provide suggestions for educators on tmi.community
  2. Once you’re reviewing the posts on another server and find something interesting; that is when the fun begins!

Just click the Boost button (or Reply or Follow buttons)

  1. You’ll get something like this dialog: (click the Copy button)

Usually, it will turn green when copied, before changing back to its typical theme based colors:

  1. In the standard (shown below, left) or advanced (shown below, right) web interface, paste the URL into the “Search or paste URL” box:

  1. Then you’ll see the Post with same buttons to Reply, Boost etc.  Engage!

Shown at left is a Post - and at right is a profile result to Follow:
